Revd. Chris Rogers - Chair Chris is a Clergyman and an Anglican Parish Priest in London. He previously worked as a ferrous metallurgist and was involved in development work for specialised uses of steel in aero space and high speed precision materials. His initial contact with Cara was in the 1980's as he was involved in setting up the first "Body Positive Group" covering Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, following a close friend's experience who died of AIDS. He joined the Trustee Board in 2002 and became Chair in 2004.
Ms Clariette Wilmott – Treasurer
Mr Malcolm Goodwin – Trustee Malcolm has been involved with Cara as a friend and supporter since 1999. He manages one of London's specialist virology laboratories at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, and is a keen member of Metropolitan Community Church, North London. He has served Cara as a Board member since 2003.
Mr David Barnes - Trustee David worked for many years in the Lloyd's insurance market, where his experience included setting up and running subsidiary companies in France and the USA in the early 1990s. He currently does voluntary work for two other charities in London, and has a small picture framing business. His main interest is tennis, and he writes regularly for a fan club magazine, following the ATP Tour here and abroad, so as to maintain his sanity and his health.
Mr Brian Mawdsley - Trustee Brian is an active Anglican who has, for the last twenty years, worked in publishing. He is responsible for the production of a number of UK/US business reports and works closely with the British/American business and government community. His first contact with Cara was in the early 1990s when he was Treasurer for a West London parish.
Ms Sophie Goodrick - Trustee Sophie worked for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office for 10 years before joining the Crown Prosecution Service as advisor on international affairs in 2007. She became involved with Cara at the same time, where she hopes to make use of her skills in strategy, business planning and project management. In her spare time she looks after her young daughter, coincidentally also called Cara.
Mr Andrew Laycock - Trustee Andy works as head of learning and development for a worldwide media organisation as well as running his own training and coaching consultancy. Knowing a number of people living with HIV, Andy fully understands, appreciates and believes in the support that Cara provides. A Yorkshireman by birth, Andy spends his spare time anywhere green in and around London and is writing his first book.
Mr Gerald Forsbrey - Secretary Gerry was with a national company for 40 years, rising to become a director with responsibility for 150 stores. For the last 13 years he was a manager with Tesco, and has recently retired. He currently serves as an elected local councillor for an outer London borough, where he hold executive responsibility for the environment portfolio. He became a Cara Trustee as he now has enough time to be able to put his skills to work where they might be of use in the community.
Ms Esther Gillespie - Trustee Esther has worked in the voluntary sector for over 5 years and is currently with the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, where her role is as the Learning & Skills project manager at the UK Workforce Hub. She feels this experience has enabled her to understand the key challenges faced by voluntary & community groups. Her work focuses on developing national occupational standards in areas such as; fund-raising, managing volunteers, campaigning, and trusteeship - essential knowledge and skills that she brings to Cara. Esther is passionate about what the voluntary sector brings both to society and to individuals; this is one of the reasons she joined our Board as she sees how Cara strives to improve the lives of its service users in a very personal way. Outside of work she enjoys theatre, film, music, dancing, keeping fit, nutrition, yoga, and personal development.
Mr Ian Govendir - Trustee
Mr Chris Woolls – Director Chris joined Cara in August 2005 and has overall responsibility for day-to-day management, fund raising and strategic direction. He previously worked at Staffordshire Buddies and Terrence Higgins Trust, and is a member of the Sexual Health & HIV Independent Advisory Group that advises the Dept. of Health. His interests include Films, Galleries, Tattoos and a growing nostalgia for old punk music.
Fr Martin McManus – Pastoral Co-ordinator Martin began working for Cara in December 2004. His responsibilities are the day-to-day running of services, training and co-ordinating of pastors and volunteers, and Cara's educational programmes. Martin has a professional background in specialist community nursing and within the church. He is an avid reader: likes traditional folk music (has been known to pick up a guitar) and speaks several languages.
Mrs Carla Anton – Finance & Admin Worker Carla holds an MBA from University of Westminster and is CIMA part-qualified. She joined Cara in September 2004 and previously was an Auditor in the Public Sector. She is interested in travelling and European languages.
Ms Alex Huggins - Volunteer Development Worker Alex joined us in January 2007 to provide support and development for Cara's magnificent volunteer team. Her particular focus is recruiting and supporting Black and other minority ethnic and service user volunteers. She has previously worked in publishing PR, and in between has been raising a family. Alex recently became a convert to gardening and enjoys cinema, reading and sport.
Mr Lawrence Capon - Evening Group Worker Lawrence is a qualified BACP accredited Integrative Counsellor who joined Cara as our volunteer Counsellor in spring 2007. He also works as an HIV counsellor for the NHS, and previously at THT and PACE. He enjoys travel, music and lazing on the beach.
Helen Byatereka - Women's Group Lead Volunteer Helen started volunteering with Positively Women (PW) in 2001. After a break of 4 years she returned to PW to focus her volunteering on supporting women both emotionally and mentally, and developed her counselling and support skills in one-to-one and group work. Helen is very interested in Complementary Therapies, loves reading, writing her diary, cinema, socialising and dancing.
